HERNDON, VA – September 10, 2009 – NetWitness Corporation, the leading provider of next generation network monitoring and threat analysis solutions, today announced that NetWitness NextGen is officially “in evaluation” for an EAL3 certification under the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS). Common Criteria evaluation is mandated for commercial information security products purchased by governments worldwide, including the United States government. NetWitness’ decision to undergo Common Criteria evaluation further demonstrates the company’s strong commitment to delivering the highest quality solutions to U.S. Government agencies.
“NetWitness’ inclusion on the list of products in evaluation assures our Federal customers that we are meeting important assurance milestones along the way to this internationally accepted evaluation and validation certificate,” said Eddie Schwartz, Chief Security Officer for NetWitness Corporation. “Our ultimate acceptance to this standard will enhance NetWitness’ ability to meet the urgent network security needs of an ever growing number of government and critical infrastructure customers who are faced with emerging and advanced threats, insider threat detection, and sophisticated data leakage concerns.”
Common Criteria is an internationally recognized set of guidelines (ISO 15408), which define a common infrastructure for IT security products. The standard consists of several predetermined assurance levels, each one more stringent than the last. Each level has a specific set of requirements against which the functionality of a product is evaluated by an accredited testing laboratory, assuring the security functionality of the product. The evaluation process is rigorous and can take months or years to complete. Once achieved, Common Criteria evaluations are mutually accepted by 25 countries, including the United States and Canada, regardless of what country the product was evaluated in. The standard is also followed unofficially by several countries, including those which are a part of the European Union.
Recently, NetWitness announced that it had been added to the U.S. Army’s Information Assurance Approved Products List (IA APL). Under the IA APL, all Army activities consult the approved products list prior to developing or acquiring Information Assurance/Communications Security, Collaboration, and NETOPS products. These products have been tested and certified for use on U.S. Army networks.
