Reset Password -VLC

Dear Friends,

I am trying to reset VLC password using Centos single user mode process. But I am stuck in between the process after entering single user mode it asks for root maintenance password. It will be really helpful if anyone of you help me about process to reset VLC root password or the root maintenance password.

it should not ask for the root password when you enter single user mode.

How you enter the single user mode, by appending 1 behind the grub entry?

Maintenance mode will happen when there is disk error or some other error.
