How to add the Archiver's WARM tier on a NAS Server by using NFS Share.
STEP BY STEP PROCEDURE TO CONFIGURE NFS SHARE:
1. Install NFS in Server System if not running already.
[root@nfs ~]# yum install nfs* -y
Start NFS service
[root@nfs ~]# service rpcbind start
[root@nfs ~]# chkconfig rpcbind on
[root@nfs ~]# chkconfig nfs on
2. Install NFS in client system running Core Archiver service.
[root@nfs]# yum install nfs* -y
Start NFS service
[root@nfs]# service rpcbind start
[root@nfs]# service nfs start
[root@nfs]# chkconfig rpcbind on
[root@nfs]# chkconfig nfs on
3. Create shared directories in server
Create a shared directory named ‘/var/nfsserver_share’ in server and let the client users to read and write files in that directory.
[root@nfs ~]# mkdir /var/nfsserver_share
[root@nfs ~]# chmod 755 /var/nfsserver_share/
4. Export shared directory on NFS Server
Open /etc/exports file and add the entry as shown below
[root@nfs ~]# vi /etc/exports
/var/nfsserver_share/ 192.168.1.0/24(rw,sync,no_root_squash,no_all_squash)
where,
/var/nfsserver_share – shared directory
192.168.1.0/24 – IP address range of clients
rw – Writable permission to shared folder
sync – Synchronize shared directory
no_root_squash – Enable root privilege
no_all_squash – Enable user’s authority
5. Restart the NFS service.
[root@nfs ~]# service nfs restart
6. Mount the share directory in client
Create a mount point to mount the share directory which we created in the earlier step.
[root@nfs]# mkdir /var/nfsclient_share
7. Mount the share from server to client as shown below
[root@nfs]# mount -t nfs <NFS_Server_IP>:/var/nfsserver_share/
/var/netwitness/archiver/database0
mount.nfs: Connection timed out
Probably it will show a connection timed out issue which means the firewall is blocking NFS
server. To allow NFS server to access from the outbound, make sure iptables is updated in NFS
server.
8. Again mount the share in client system
[root@nfs]# mount -t nfs <NFS_Server_IP>:/var/nfsserver_share/
/var/netwitness/archiver/database0
Now the NFS share will mount without any connection timed out error.
9. Verify NFS
Verify the share from the server is mounted or not using ‘mount’ command.
[root@nfs]# mount
<NFS_Server_IP>:/var/nfsserver_share/ on /var/nfsclient_share type nfs
(rw,vers=4,addr=<NFS_Server_IP>,clientaddr=<NFS_Client_IP>)
10. Auto mount the Shares
To mount the shares automatically instead of mounting them manually at every reboot, add
the following lines in the ‘/etc/fstab’ file of client system.
[root@nfs]# vi /etc/fstab
<NFS_Server_IP>:/var/nfsserver_share/ /var/netwitness/archiver/database0 nfs
rw,sync,hard,intr 0 0
Reboot the client system and check the share whether it is automatically mounted or not.
