RSA NetWitness raidNew command fails when configuring a new DAC

Issue

Following the steps to add a new DAC fails when trying to run the raidNew command.

The raidNew command returns the error, "Invalid arguments, Unsupported Write policy".

Cause

Some RAID Controllers are not able to accept the "Write back" (wb) setting in the raidNew command-line string.

For example, the raidNew command-line string in the above screenshot error is:
 

/opt/MegaRAID/perccli/perccli64 /c1 add vd r6 drives=15:0,15:1,15:2,15:3,15:4,15:5,15:6,15:7,15:8,15:9,15:10,15:11,15:12,15:13,15:14 wb ra cached Strip=128

Resolution

Login to the NetWitness appliance with the new DAC to configure and manually run the raidNew command without the "Write back" (wb) setting.

Obtain the raidNew command from your error output and remove the "wb" text, then run that command on the NetWitness appliance.

For the above example, the modified command and output appear like:

/opt/MegaRAID/perccli/perccli64 /c1 add vd r6 drives=15:0,15:1,15:2,15:3,15:4,15:5,15:6,15:7,15:8,15:9,15:10,15:11,15:12,15:13,15:14 ra cached Strip=128
Controller = 1
Status = Success
Description = Add VD Succeeded

Go back to the NetWitness UI, to continue with the remaining steps to complete adding the new DAC.

Notes

There is a known issue in the NetWitness 11.5 UI, Admin > Services > {Core service} > Explore
Where in NetWitness 11.5 the deviceappliance/appliance no longer exists.
