This was intended more as a blog than a question. So basically I have run into a permissions issue where after "read and write" permissions were granted to the Analysts role in the reporting app the analysts were not able to test a rule that they had created because they could not select a Data Source from the drop down. To remedy:
In the Security Analytics menu, select Dashboard > Administration > Services.
In the Services Grid, select a Reporting Engine service.
Select > View > Config.
The Services Config View of Reporting Engine is displayed.
Select the Sources tab.
The Services Config View is displayed with the Reporting Engine Sources tab open.
Select the source that you want to be the default source (for example, Broker).
Select the source that you want to be the default source (for example, Broker).
Select Data Source Permissions.
Click the Read Only radio button to change the desired role (Analysts) to have "Read Only" permissions.
Save
