I keep getting:
An error occurred creating an ODBC connection for DSN: oratestaudit The trapped error is: Unable to create an ODBC connection. DSN: oratestaudit; username: audit_reader; reason: state: 60; error-code: 28040; description: [RSA][ODBC 20101 driver][20101]ORA-28040: No matching authentication protocol
I've tried NwOdbcExample and doesn't give a different or more descriptive error.
SA version 10.6.4.2 therefore based on the document, driver R2ora27.so should be used.
All articles I found online indicate problems with incompatibility between the client and server and there is a workaround flag that can be set on Oracle side to overcome this.
Setting the SQLNET.ALLOWED_LOGON_VERSION = 11 in the DB side removes the restriction from the DB.
However after applying this, the issue persists.

Just to inform other customers that are getting this error with 12c. Don't waste your time!
RSA haven't properly tested the mentioned driver and only now have discovered that it doesn't work. With that said, the documentation is wrong as it falsely claims that 12c is supported with ODBC when it's not.
They are now in the process of testing a new driver, only after I reported that the one mentioned in the documentation doesn't work.

I have seen this before when Oracle RAC is used. Can you confirm if this is a RAC or Standalone database ?

This isn't a clustered/RAC instance but standalone.
Thanks

Looks like same issue here, they released a new driver for us, it's due to the Oracle 12c password which current driver not supported, please open a support case and get the new driver.

Marinos et all, we get our Oracle drivers from Progress Software and have been in touch with them over the last few months to obtain new versions supporting Oracle 12c. I am happy to say that we finally have the official drivers delivered and tested in house. The plan is to integrate them into the NetWitness 10.6.7 release. In the meantime please contact RSA Customer Support to obtain the new drivers and the steps for installing them.
Thank you,
Amit Rotem, NetWitness Engineering

Thanks Amit
I'm more interested to learn how did the old driver, that was never meant to work with 12c, pass the RSA QA and made it in the documentation.
We have wasted a lot of time and missed deadlines because of the false claims in the documentation.

We’ll definitely conduct an RCA to understand how this issue was not discovered in testing. In any case, it is recommended to open a ticket with RSA Customer Support so that we can investigate the issue and get back to you as soon as possible with an update.
