Hi,
I was just wondering what peoples opinions are on Google's safebrowsing (www.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=) ?
How much faith should someone put into this, along with the other tools and investigation one might have for something suspicious?
For instance, I was recently looking into grainger.com and came across this:
Google Safe Browsing diagnostic page for grainger.com
Now while grainger seems to be safe, it says the places it has been hosted on aren't too safe.
Do you proceed with guilty by association since its been hosted on unsafe networks or proceed another way?
I'm just curious how other people would read something like this and what weight they put into Google's safebrowsing.
Thanks

I think Google Safebrowsing really only provides a small perspective for site reputation. And they don't often have the most up-to-date information. And since its integrated with Google Chrome, not being up-to-date can expose users to compromise.
But using this reputation page along with several others can provide well-rounded perspective about reputation. This post here is a great chrome plugin that works great with SA for fast access to several of your preferred reputation analysis pages-

I have not used Google Safebrowsing before. I use the Web of Trust (mywot.com) plug-in that allows users to rate sites. I have found that to be useful. Comparing results from WOT and Google Safebrowsing shows that the two agree; at least on the 15 or so sites I tried. I would consider Google Safebrowsing another tool in the toolbox, not the final say on a site.

I have utilized google safe browsing few times. Each time when I analyzed the reported website it was true that the website was infected with malicious code. I would not put much concern if other website were infected on the network so using reputation metric would be more valuable to me.

thanks everyone for their opinions.
i added the threat analytics search plugin to chrome and added wot to the list within it.
i was using some of those links provided in it already but this makes it easy to do it all at once.
